Take Everything Lightly but Not Medical Insurance

My friend Nicolson is a carefree person. With his devil-may-care attitude, he takes everything lightly. In fact, ‘take light’ is his signature line. However grave or serious a situation may be, he takes it easy and makes fun of it. It is not that he had never paid a price for it; yet very often he would be lucky enough to escape unsavoury consequences. I wish he would be similarly lucky with his medical insurance; but he was not.

He was never careful about his health, and I was sure he was going to catch some critical disease one day. So, I used to tell him the importance of having medical insurance. I finally convinced him to buy one. However, I failed to persuade him to read the terms and conditions of the policy before he signed the dotted lines. In his usual careless attitude, he bought one without giving importance to the details.

Finally, as expected, he became ill and the disease was critical. Still, he did not let go of his careless ways. He bought the medical insurance policy, so that he could manage timely and adequate treatment and get well quickly. But this time he was not as lucky as he used to be. When he approached the insurance agency, he discovered, to his astonishment, that the disease he had been suffering from was not considered ‘critical’ by the agency. Consequently, they would not cover it.

Anyway, my friend somehow managed to pay for the medical treatment he needed; but that caused him a huge financial loss. He learnt a lesson, but the cost was too expensive.
